In the face of more frequent and intense natural disasters, we are facing continuous, often concurrent, disaster responses. We saw firsthand the large-scale sheltering needs during recent hurricane responses. The American Red Cross is inviting compassionate community members to join our shelter team.
Shelter responders will support large disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. Local volunteers will be trained to support emergency shelters and other Red Cross services in their communities and help bolster our existing nationwide volunteer network. Our team will be hosting a Shelter in a Day training at the American Red Cross on September 19, 2026, at 9:00 am. Participants will receive the training to serve in our shelters during a disaster in one day. Bring a lunch and be prepared to learn while having fun! Must be 18.
