Needs From: Volunteer United

The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children and adults with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for the participants arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries. But it’s more than playing a game. The Miracle League is about making new friends, building self-esteem and being treated just like other athletes. To help the athletes, the Miracle League uses a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described. The Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disabilities, which causes them to be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional Baseball leagues.

Scheduling: Games will begin the week of April 11th - May 16th, We will be hosting a baseball opening day for all of your participants on April 18th at Domtar Park.   Games will be scheduled every Saturday at 10am ages 17 and under and 11am ages 18 and above

Every Tuesday that school is in session, join the Kingsport Parks and Rec inclusion class and the community for a fun 2 hours of adaptive play at V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex.   We always need volunteers to assist with the obstacles and games.

Join us for inclusive cornhole on February 20th from 6-7:30 p.m. Volunteers should plan to arrive at 5:30 to sign a waiver and help set up.

Join Kingsport Parks and Rec. for an Inclusive Glow Dance on March 6 from 7-8:30 PM.  Volunteers should arrive at 6:30 PM to help set up.
