We have several locations where damage from Hurricane Helene flooding deposited large piles of downed trees on the property of private homeowners. We need volunteers who would love to contribute to Cocke County's rebuilding efforts through landscaping service.

This would include the following:

Utilizing axes, chainsaws and other power tools to deconstruct deadfall

processing deadfall into manageable firewood

Weed eating

Planting flowers or working in the garden

Trimming Bushes

Rebuilding or reshaping garden beds

Raking

Moving landscaping supplies around a property 

Painting of walls, ceilings, and baseboards.

New and/or replace plumbing in New Home or Remodel of storm damaged home for survivor families.

Final cleaning of new/remodeled home for flood survivors.

We will be serving BBQ sandwiches and coleslaw, cookies etc. we will need help with any of the following: serving onto plates or to go containers, clearing tables and general duties like that. 

Installation of new or the replacement of electrical wiring, breakers, switches, and fixtures in new home construction or remodel.

Service opportunity in Lynn Garden preparing and distributing food and clothing to the Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia Communities. 

Tasks include sorting and hanging clothing, packaging food items, and building community relations. 

Volunteers may need to lift boxes up to 50 lbs.

RISE provides free period products and free barrier methods of STI and pregnancy prevention. This volunteer would come in to RISE 1-2 times a month to prep care packages for individuals and organizations that RISE serves. They would also be responsible for letting the director know if the supplies are running low.

Description: Join our dedicated team of Meals on Wheels volunteers who deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors across the eight counties of Northeast Tennessee: Carter, Greene, Johnson, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington. As a meal delivery volunteer, you'll provide more than just food; you'll also offer a friendly face and a caring connection that brightens the day of those who may be isolated.

Commitment: Flexible; volunteers can choose to help as often as they like, whether it's once a week, once a month, or whenever their schedule allows. Delivery routes typically take about an hour and occur between 8 AM and 12 PM, Monday through Friday. You can select a route close to your home or work, making it convenient for you to participate.

Walking property sites and pickup up debris with a trash bag for collection.

The Carter Compassion Center is a young nonprofit in need of grant support. You will play a crucial role in identifying funding opportunities for the team to pursue by reviewing online information. This role does not require experience in researching or submitting grants but it is appreciated. The position will work with two other volunteers who submit and track the grant requests. This support can be done remotely and at your own pace. The team typically meets remotely every two weeks to share information. 

For those who want to support our disaster recovery efforts but are not interested in construction opportunities, we can use volunteer support in the ASP office! Tasks may include responding to inquiries, answering phones, stuffing mailings, data entry, various other administrative tasks, or organizing warehouse tools and supplies. Please let us know of your interest, and we will reach out as opportunities arise.

Support our administrative staff by assisting with basic office duties including: answering phones, filing paperwork, sorting donations, basic cleaning, supporting staff, additional duties as directed.

We are in need of women to volunteer to monitor our women's homeless shelter. Duties include answering the phone, scheduling intake appointments, reporting incidents to staff, and spending time with residents. 

We need women to volunteer to cook for residents at our women's homeless shelter.

Provide key support to staff by assisting customers and operating cash register

·        Devote a minimum of 5 volunteer hours per week, divided into at least two 2.5-hour shifts

·        Assist customers by ringing up sales utilizing a cash register, collecting monies, counting change, and preparing receipts, and packaging purchased items

·        Communicate with customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions, assisting with donations, and providing general information

Healing Hands Health provides primary medical care to patients who are uninsured in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. We are looking for volunteer physicians to join our team. Must be licensed in Tennessee and have liability insurance.

Remember not so long ago when everyone, except for essential workers, were stuck at home? What if that never ended for you. What if you were not able to get out of the home or to even cook your own meal? What if you had little to no family around and there you are unable to get out with others.

You can make a difference in people's lives. You can take an hour out of your day to make a world of difference to someone homebound. Countless times we hear from recipients how they would not have a meal if it was not for volunteers bringing a meal to their door. Sometimes, the visit is also a welfare check; making sure that person is okay. You may brighten a person's whole day just by chatting with them for a few minutes.

Family Promise of Greater Kingsport is seeking groups or clubs who are willing to prepare meals for our shelter families Monday-Friday evenings. The meals would be dropped off at the Family Promise office anytime during the day, and delivered to the shelter families in the evenings by staff members.  In exchange, Family Promise of Greater Kingsport will happily share their group information on our social media.  

We are also seeking volunteers to assist with office duties, such as organizing and sorting donated clothes and household items. This could be done any time of the day, Monday-Friday between 9-5. 

Family Promise is looking for Board Directors.  The Board meets on the thrid Monday of the month between 6-7 pm at the Family Promise Office and Day Center, located at 601 Holston Dr. in Kingsport. 

At Caris Healthcare, we depend on support from administrative volunteers in our office - preparing mailings, helping with special events, writing note cards, making phone calls, and more. By volunteering in this capacity, we are able to devote more time to our patients.

Volunteering as an administrative/community outreach volunteer, you are helping in the office and sharing community connections. This will allow us to maximize our ability to serve families in our communities.

The Salvation Army is always looking for volunteers to help prepare products for sale in our Family Store. Volunteers will help with the receiving, sorting, tagging, stocking, and rotation of merchandise donated by the general public for sale in our store.

The Salvation Army serves a noontime meal seven days per week and is always looking for volunteer groups and individuals to serve in our Community Kitchen. Volunteers may help with food prep, serving, cleaning and will have the opportunity, as desired, to interact with our guests. 

Volunteers are needed to assist in the galleries on a daily basis, help in archives and collections, provide curatorial research assistance, support special events, assist in the Museum Store, and act as docents for guided tours. Museum volunteers create their own schedules based your personal interests and the needs of the museum.Training is required. River's Way is looking to form church based walking groups in order to promote physical activity and the inclusion of people with disabilities in our communtiy. These groups work especially well for senior citizens. We have two goals with these groups:

1. To set up structured walking programs for church members in order to increase levels of physical activity 

2. To create walking groups that build social connections between church members and young adults with disabilities

River's Way staff will meet with church representatives to set up a walking group. We will look at best days and times, opportunities for walking indoors and outdoors and any limitations that walking group members might have. The church will designate a walking group leader/contact person. We will schedule walking dates on a weekly or monthly basis. River's Way staff will meet with walking group members on designated dates. River's Way staff will be accompanied by 2-3 adults with disabilities. The combined group will have a chance to socialize prior to walking for 45 minutes to an hour.  We plan to schedule a celebration/recognition event every 3-4 months. 

We are seeking adults with experience to serve as merit badge counselors. Background checks and training provided. 

Our special project veteran volunteers give back to the community in a very special way!

As part of the national organization, We Honor Veterans (WHV), Caris works closely with our veteran patients and community veteran groups. We provide recognition ceremonies to honor their time in service. What better recognition than to be presented with an honorary pin and certificate than by another vet?

As a special projects veteran volunteer, there are some very special ways you can become involved, for instance: 

Hospice is a special way of caring for terminally ill patients and their families. 

Veteran Volunteers can assist our veteran patients by providing an outlet and discussing events that can provide closure to our veteran patients and their families. 

Caris Healthcare is committed to serving veterans by tailoring hospice services to specific spiritual, physical and emotional needs. Our patients are terminally ill and veterans may have a unique need at the end of life.

Caris is part of the We Honor Veterans program which is specifically for veterans that are in hospice care.

Caris Healthcare provides hospice volunteers to volunteer directly with patients and caregivers in their place of residence, nursing home or assisted living community. These special volunteers provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support to patients and families.

A few examples of tasks: visit with patient so a caregiver can run errands, help organize photos, letter writing, reading a book, providing spiritual reading or prayer or just be a friend that shows up and listens.

This is a non-medical position and no physical labor is required.

The coverage area is for Washington, Smyth, Grayson, Tazwell, Russell and Bristol, Virginia.

All hospice volunteers receive training to ensure that they feel comfortable performing their requested/assigned care activities. Volunteers determine the amount of time they can provide, but generally it is 1-2 hours a month!

We take pride in our world class volunteers. We believe they are the best of the best! Therefore, all volunteer candidates must pass a background check and TB screen prior to beginning service with our organization. Agency will cover the cost of the TB and background check. This is to ensure the safety of our patients and families.

Friends In Need Health Center needs someone to research grants for the clinic in the field of health, dental, and mental health.   Could also help to write the grants for submission.

MyRide Greeneville strives to improve the quality of life for older adults by providing courteous and safe door-through-door volunteer transportation to those eligible for the service, enabling them to obtain essential services and maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life.  MyRide TN Greeneville operates within a ten-mile radius of The Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center.

Volunteers drive their personal vehicles to transport seniors to their destinations.  Drivers must be over 21 years of age and have a valid TN drivers’ license, clean driving record and proof of insurance.  The volunteer's insurance is always primary.  In addition, MyRide TN Greeneville has purchased additional auto, medical and liability insurance for all volunteers.   Both state and federal volunteer-protection laws offer another layer of safety for volunteers.

We ask that our volunteers to drive to a minimum of three hours per month/two rides.   These hours are based on the drivers schedule and availability.   We do not require a set day and time commitment.   We offer training, a nominal quarterly mileage reimbursement if requested, AAA classic membership for qualified drivers and GPS navigational units if needed. 

Help us to build community through physical activity! We developed River's Way/ YMCA fitness programming to build community among people of all abilities. This program includes weight lifting, yoga and walking. Volunteers get to exercise while teaming with youth and young adults with differing abilities. The program takes place at the YMCA of Bristol and it runs from 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM, Monday- Thursday. We welcome volunteers to join us at any time during those hours.

FTHRA partnered with Meals on Wheels America need volunteers to deliver nutritious meals to seniors in your community - you only need about an hour. Meals are picked up at a nutrition site between 9:30 am - 11:00 am Monday - Friday and take approx. 1 to 1.5 hrs. to deliver. Our volunteers are often the only person a meal recipient will see during the day and your smile means the world to them. If you have an hour once a month or once a week, we can use your help! We need volunteers in all areas, Washington County, Unicoi County, Greene County, Sullivan County, Carter County, Hawkins County, Hancock County, and Johnson County.

General grounds maintenance is needed at the Boys & Girls Club Virginia site:  weed-eating, lawn work, cleaning up trash. If anyone has a pressure washer to clean our buildings, please notify us because this is a need as well. 

Our playground needs a set of volunteers to re-mulch it so that it is as safe as possible for the kiddos we serve to play on it and stay active while also making sure the space is not prone to child injury. 

Beyond this, general maintenance around the outside playground at our Bristol Virginia club site needs to be performed (cutting grass, pulling weeds, etc.) 

United We're Strong! United Way of Greater Kingsport is launching a new initiative, Community Ambassadors for a Diverse Kingsport. We need volunteers from the Greater Kingsport community to act as "hosts" to people of color and multicultural families that are new and/or incoming residents to the area. In providing this extra layer of hospitality and support, the goal is for newcomers to become engaged and active in our community. Therefore seeing a positive increase in diversity for companies, community organizations, schools, churches and the region! 

Requirements: Each participating individual or family will be matched with a "Host". Thats where you come in!  The host will help facilitate relationships, connections, and help the participants to get involved in local organizations and community events.

We have moved to a new location and are in need of help getting our barn ready to be used for clothing referrals! We need help putting gravel in several horse stalls as well as cleaning them out.

The Holston Habitat ReStore in Johnson City relies on the support of volunteers from the community to be a valuable resource for our customers. As new donations are coming in every day, volunteers accept donations; assess the usability of donations; clean, assemble, repair and price donations prior to stocking; stock donations on the sales floor; and keep the store inventory organized and clean.
