Looking for an outdoor conservation volunteer commitment, that also gives back for flood recovery? ARCD and Partners are building a dedicated team of 10-15 committed volunteers who want to play a significant role in stabilizing barren and eroding rivers and streambanks along the Nolichucky and other rivers in northeast Tennessee left behind by Hurricane Helene. Volunteers will get in the dirt - digging holes, doing minor hand grading, planting trees and livestakes and spreading mulch, straw and grass seed. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for active people who have the time, energy and enthusiasm to commit to investing 8-12 +/- hours per month over the next year.
Volunteer Tennessee Stream Team members receive:
- Intensive education and training from professional bio-engineering and conservation experts with University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Appalachian RC&D and other natural resource agencies
- Branded outdoor clothing and other SWAG
- Mileage reimbursement for travel costs to and from work sites
- Invitations to fun social events (paid for by generous private donors) with other Team members and Partners where we celebrate successes and lessons learned
- Snacks and beverages on the day of work events
Work days will take place approximately once per month over the next year (and possibly longer) as part of our post-Helene river recovery efforts. The Appalachian ARC&D and our Partners will offer training, tools, equipment and coordinate all logistics. Volunteer Team Sign Up:
